Captions for Instagram Reels

Transcribe your Reel with AI in the browser, style the captions, and download a portrait MP4 with them burned in. Nothing is uploaded.

Free · No signup · Files never leave your device

How it works

1

Drop your video or audio

Any MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, or recording — it stays on your device, nothing is uploaded.

2

AI transcribes locally

OpenAI's Whisper speech-recognition model runs right in your browser via WebGPU or WebAssembly, with a timestamp for every line. Or upload your own SRT/VTT to skip this step.

3

Style and burn them in

Pick the caption style — word-by-word, background box, size, position — preview it live, and download an MP4 with the captions baked in.

Reels captions without an editor

Captions lift watch time on Reels because so much of the audience keeps the sound off. This tool transcribes your clip locally with Whisper, lets you style the captions with a live preview, and burns them into the picture so they display identically wherever the Reel is shared.

Everything runs in your browser — no upload, no watermark. Need a plain SRT or a toggleable track instead? Both are one click away from the same result screen.

Frequently asked questions

Aren't there captions built into Instagram?

Instagram offers auto-captions, but you can't fully control their style or wording and they aren't guaranteed across every placement. Burning your own captions in gives you a consistent look and guarantees they show for every viewer, on Reels, Stories, and the feed.

Will the captions fit a vertical Reel?

Yes. The tool adapts caption line length to the 9:16 aspect ratio and lets you place text at the bottom or center, so nothing gets cut off by the interface overlays.

Can I use subtitles I already have?

Yes. Upload an existing SRT or VTT file to skip transcription — then download it in another format, burn the captions into the video, or add them as a soft track.

Do you upload my video?

No. The Whisper AI transcription runs locally in your browser via WebGPU or WebAssembly, and if you burn captions in, that re-encode runs on your device too. Your file never leaves your computer — once the page has loaded it even works offline.

What languages are supported?

Whisper was trained on about 100 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindi. Language is auto-detected by default; picking the spoken language can improve accuracy.

Is it really free?

Yes. The caption maker is completely free, with no signup, watermarks, or limits. We make money from our video translation service, not from this tool.
