How to shrink a video without ruining it
Video size comes down to three levers: length, resolution, and bitrate. The compressor controls the last one for you — it picks the bitrate that lands your file at the chosen size or quality — but you control the other two, and they matter more. Trimming a video to just the part you need is free quality; so is downscaling, because a 4K phone video shown in a chat window carries pixels nobody will ever see. Halving the resolution frees up enough bitrate to make the remaining pixels look dramatically better at the same file size.
The most common jobs — getting under Discord's 10 MB, WhatsApp-friendly sizes, or an email provider's 25 MB attachment cap — work best in target-size mode: set the number, and the output lands just under it. For everything else, the quality presets pick a sensible size for you.
