How it works

1

Drop your image

Any PNG, JPG, or WebP photo — it stays on your device.

2

AI runs locally

A segmentation neural network runs right in your browser via WebGPU or WebAssembly. The model downloads once — nothing is ever uploaded.

3

Download your PNG

Get a transparent PNG for free, or pick a solid background color before downloading.

Transparency without Photoshop

Manually masking a subject takes minutes even for someone who knows their way around an editor. A segmentation model does it in seconds: it predicts, for every pixel, how much it belongs to the subject, and that prediction becomes the PNG's alpha channel — including soft, partially transparent edges that hard selection tools miss.

The output is a standard PNG with real transparency, so it drops straight into Figma, Canva, PowerPoint, OBS overlays, or any web page. If you need a solid backdrop instead, pick a color before downloading — the cutout is kept in memory, so switching is instant.

Frequently asked questions

What is a transparent PNG useful for?

Anywhere an image needs to sit on top of something else: logos on colored websites, product cutouts in banners and ads, stickers for chat apps, overlays in video thumbnails, and images in slides that should not carry a white box around them.

Does it keep existing transparency?

Yes. If your input PNG already has transparent areas, they are preserved — the AI matte is multiplied into the existing alpha channel rather than replacing it.

JPG to transparent PNG — does that work?

Yes, that is the classic case: JPG cannot store transparency at all, so the tool detects the subject, removes everything else, and saves the result as a PNG with a real alpha channel.

How accurate is the AI?

It uses ISNet, a dichotomous image segmentation network trained on people, products, animals, and everyday objects. Results are sharp for most photos; very fine details like wispy hair or fur are the hardest cases for any background remover.

Why does the first image take longer?

The AI model (~88 MB) is downloaded the first time you use the tool and cached by your browser. After that, processing starts instantly — and works even offline.

What image formats are supported?

PNG, JPG, and WebP as input. The result is always a PNG — with a transparent background by default, or a solid color of your choice.

Is it really free?

Yes. The background remover is completely free, with no signup, watermarks, or limits. We make money from our video translation service, not from this tool.

Do you upload my files?

No. The processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device — you can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
